Reed Leaf Boat Howto - DIY - Do it yourself
This is a very nice amusement for kids when being on a lake with reeds on the strand.
All you need is a long leaf of reeds, rushes or cat tails. Remove it from the plant like this, so that the
part of the leaf around the stem remains on the leaf:
Then bend back a short part like this and crack the now "double leaf" as shown with the dashed lines:
Do this with the forpart too:
Now you can bend back both parts and it should look something like this:
At the fore, carefully bend up the outer parts and stick one between the other one:
Do the same with the aft:
Voila! You have a reed boat :-)
Leave the "rectangle" parts on the fore and aft on the boat, because the provide stability.
