GigaByte Motherboard South-Bridge Fan Replacement - removing strange noise

The south-bridge fan of one GigaByte GA-K8NS Pro started to make strange noises - actually a noise like if a grain of sand is in the fan. I tried to buy an original replacement fan, but people told me GigaByte does not sell the fans individually.

So I bought one of those slim VGA graphics card cooler fan/heat sink combinations, removed the slim fan and mounted it on the original GigaByte south-bridge heat sink. I had to turn the fan a little, so that the orginal screws fitted into the heat sink.

Actually a regular slim fan, i.e. a 40x40x8mm3 fan would probably work aswell (with different (longer) screws), but since I have my soundblaster directly above it, I needed a really slim fan (see the photo - the soundblaster is the fuzzy thing in the lower left corner). If you have something short in that PCI slot, i.e. a regular ethernet network card, the height of the fan should be no problem.

GigaByte Motherboard South-Bridge Fan Replacement

This is not a perfect solution, but I wanted to avoid to remove the whole motherboard to unmount the heat sink and fumble with that adhesive-like-hell heat conducting tape.
