AJAX/Javascript Drag/Drop Windows within the Browser
The new forthcoming project of captain.at
- CapBAS - the BAS (Browser Application System) -
is about the mega-hyped browser-operating-system,
which will provide applications within the browser. This means that the actual applications
are running within your browser, but all file handling is done via the serving server.
UPDATE: The proof-of-concept is now available here:
AJAX/Javascript Browser Operating System - Drag/Drop Windows within the Browser Part 2
This means something like the following:
A preview screenshot of the BAS:
We have the actual application window within the the browser window. You can do anything
with the within-the-browser-window what is possible with any regular
window which is available within your operating system.
The actual window handling is done via javascript/ajax - that means that even the drag/drop
of the windows is done via javascript. The drawback is that this is a little ductile,
but on the other hand it is all done within the browser, which means that the forthcoming
applications are operating system independent.
That instantly implies the fact that the regular user doesn't have to update
the own operating system (which can be quite pricey) and the regular desktop applications on a
daily or monthly subscription basis, but just the
root-browser-operating-system, which is the core of the newly proposed browser-operating-system.
This means a lot of ease of the regular internet user - no need to update the diverse applications
which are present on the current desktop, such as text-processing-programs, database-processing-applications,
and much diverse applications, but just the core-browser-system (CBS).
The future is the browser-base-application-service!
As ISP's are providing the regular internet access now, they will offer "application-service-providing"
in the future, such as text-based applictions or any application which is available on any currently
available desktop. Only the future will tell which technology will evolve.
This project will be published in the first beta version until Dec. 2005 (if anything
develops as expected)
