AJAX/Javascript Browser Operating System - Drag/Drop Windows within the Browser Part 2

Just to avoid confusion, this Browser Operating System was available before all those mostly low-performance systems appeared! So far this windowing solution is one of the fastest!

The new forthcoming project of captain.at is about the mega-hyped browser-operating-system, which will provide applications within the browser. This means that the actual applications are running within your browser, but all file handling is done via the serving server.

This was the previous teaser. Want another keyword ? "Web-based Office"! It's absolutely possible to create an office suite, such as word processing, tabular and even database stuff within the browser.

Now we have the real example, which you can try and explore. This is just a proof-of-concept study, since there are many improvements in javascript to be done.
Especially speed! Speed is not the problem of my implementation, but of the browsers in general. When computers get even faster and the browser technologly matures, this will become a viable option - for now it's just a proof-of-concept.

Since all "content" of the browser-windows is loaded in iFrames, it is possible to load anything in those iFrames. Either remote content, and also local (that includes intranet) stuff.
As mentioned above, we can have a web-based "office" - my structure of the CapOS Browser OS is designed for just that. Anything can be loaded in the window's iFrames, also XUL applications - of course that will only work in Mozilla/Firefox.

Conclusion:
Despite the fact that this is just proof-of-concept, we see that this is a very promising technology - the browser is actually the new evolving technology of the new century.
In the latest two decades of the past century many companies were fighting about the dominance on operating systems. We all know which company succeeded - and we all know that this dominance was not achieved honestly.

Anyway, I don't see the future desktop - even the office desktop only - as a browser-based only system. At least not for the next five years. Development of the operating systems and the client systems will slow down. And again - this is just a proof of concept.

The DEMO version is available here.

Download the whole thingie here.

So far only Mozilla/FireFox is supported.
Thanks to the GNOME project for the artwork.
Thanks to Walter Zorn for the drag-drop-library.
