Firefox Extension: Page Rank Status (pagerankstatus) - Show Java Console (showjavaconsole)
UPDATE: Here are the 2 extensions for Firefox 3:
showjavaconsole
pagerankstatus
UPDATE: The 2 extensions have been updated to work with FireFox 2.0
UPDATE: Page-Rank-Status works with FireFox 1.5+ as it is. Show-Java-Console has been updated.
That means those will work with any FireFox security update (e.g. 1.5.0.1) and any forthcoming
minor update (e.g. 1.5.1).
Here are two working extensions for FireFox 1.5 (tested on FF1.5-rc2 and on 1.5-rc3).
Page-Rank-Status will display the Google Page-Rank of the currently visible page: (http://pagerankstatus.mozdev.org/)
pagerankstatus (v0.9.6): download
install
pagerankstatus source code (v0.9.6)
Show-Java-Console will add a menu item to "Tools", "Java Console", which will display a Java Console: (http://showjavaconsole.mozdev.org/)
showjavaconsole (v0.1):
download
install
showjavaconsole source code (v0.1)
Why I've (temporarily) forked those extensions ?
So far Show-Java-Console was not updated to work on FF1.5 at all.
Page-Rank-Status is always behind FF1.5 development and the last available version will not install due
a typo.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
TROUBLESHOOTING with FIREFOX 1.5 final
ATTENTION: There seems to be a problem with FireFox 1.5 final, if you use it with an existing
profile:
It couldn't open local (saved to your harddisk) .xpi extensions and install it - the message:
"Software installation is currently disabled. Click Edit Options... to enable it and try again."
appeared. I tried to activate software installation in the "Options", but that didn't work.
So I added "install" links below, to install the extensions directly from this page,
onclick="InstallTrigger.startSoftwareUpdate(...
and even when adding www.captain.at to the allowed sites, the extensions didn't install.
Setting "xpinstall.enabled" to "true" in "about:config" finally enabled software installation.
This is covered in the release notes.
Still there is the message
"Firefox could not install this item because there is failure in Chrome Registration.
Please contact the author about this problem."
but the extensions work. This message appears only once after installing one extension and restarting
FireFox.
NOTE: Due the initial problems, I wanted to go back to 1.0.7, but then 1.0.7 didn't come up at all,
or at least hung with a partially initialized GUI. I had to remove/rename the following files and
directories to run 1.0.7 again:
extensions.cache
extensions.ini
extensions.rdf
extensions/
UPDATE: Everything seems to work with a new profile, so something with my old 1.0.7 profile must be wrong
or is not understood correctly by 1.5!
