While being in Italy, I visited the Saline of Cervia (solar salt work).
Many thanks to Silvia and Nicola, who showed me the Artemia Salina in one salt pan :-)
I asked Silvia if I can see the Artemia - she told Nicola about my interest, and he
went with me on a special VIP tour to a salt pan in the usually closed area of the
saline. There I saw my first Artemia in a native environment. Many thanks again! :-)
These are the Artemia Salina in the Saline of Cervia!
Their color is red because of the low oxygen content of the brine water,
so the level of haemoglobin in the Artemia is high. Haemoglobin has a red color (hence our blood is
red too)
