Artemia are usually moving quite fast, so taking sharp high resolution images is next to impossible and
requires quite some patience. The solution is to use Menthol to narcotize the animal.
I dissolved some Menthol crystals (available in every pharmacy or chemistry shop) in water.
Then I used a 5ml pipette in "reverse mode" to move one animal from the aquarium tank to a small petri dish.
"reverse mode" means, that I removed the rubber suction cup from the pipette and mounted it on the
tip of the pipette. So I had a pipette with a large opening - large enough to suck up an adult animal
without hurting it. Then I added about 1ml of the (saturated) Menthol/water solution. Now it can take 2-3
or more hours until the animal is anesthetized and doesn't move anymore. As soon as the animal remains
motionless, start photographing. Then use the "reverse mode" pipette again to move the animal back into
the aquarium tank. If the anesthetization wasn't too strong, chances are good that the animal will
survive.
