CITY OF CERVIA - SALINA DI CERVIA - Ancora una volta

While in Italy, I visited the Saline of Cervia (solar salt work) again in 2007.
Many thanks to the citizen of Cervia for being so kind :-)

The 2 salt towers, left of the river going to the solar salt work, used to store salt in medieval times

The salt halls, including the biggest salt tower in the back (both photos seen in direction of the harbor and the sea

Today in the former salt halls there is a museum. This photo shows the shop signs some decades ago, where shop owners now only sold tobbacco, but also salt
Closeup view of the main salt tower

In the museum again: coins, which the salt worker received as salary back then

Now we're heading to the harbour, just about 300 meters after the salt towers - still that narrow channel

We're now back in the solar salt work again, just about 3km from the coast, in the visitor center, where Valerio (grazie per tutto il mio compare :-) shows all of the solar salt work in detail
Now you're ready to go on a fieldtrip ? Sure we are :-) Here we are shipping down one of the many channels of the solar salt work to see some very nice things ;-)

Hotel Ficocle, tiny building in the center: one of 5 remaining buildings of the Old Cervia - in 1697 they all moved, settled at the place of todays Cervia, and demolished the old city. Reason ? As a tribute to God that he removed Malaria in 1697
Another beautiful sight to the center of the salina, to Hotel Ficocle, over the pools of the solar salt work

Two pictures of the pump houses, which were built in 1956 when the whole solar salt work was redesigned (means, from hundreds of small salines (like Camillone - see the last 3 photos) into one big saline.

Hey that funny dude again :-) You already know him!

Hotel Ficocle in the center (bigger building) and one of the smaller 5 houses remaining on the left

Hundreds of Flamingoes (Rick, that photo is for you - does Pinky still exist ?)

Two seagulls on the watchtower

The general of the seagull division in Cervia

Big salt hill at the todays facility of the solar salt work

The center of the harvesting facility

Three photos of the Salina di Camillone ...

... the solar salt work originally consisted of 100s of such small solar salt works ...

... but in 1956 it was reconstructed to one big solar salt work, only Camillone remained, because it is still based on Etruscan foundations
